  • ABOUT THE ARTIST

A poetic impulse, at times dreamlike, seems to bring motion to the small-scale pieces by Chano Navarro. His creative capacity, the personal process of analysing the expressive possibilities of sculpture that he says are paused and resumed over time, is conveyed in nimble pieces, with a certain aesthetic fragility that catches the eye of the observer. With Tensión [Tension] and Fauno Danzante [Dancing Faun], the artist re-creates a very telling and intuitive theme that he explored in other projects. Threadlike figures, almost unravelled by the wind and exposed on a near imaginary pole that he achieves by masterfully engaging in the lost wax technique of bronze and which are the successful outcome of personal research in the workshop. The concept of duality is prominent in his artistic creation: spaces and figures, imaginary and real, man and woman; all of which make up a universe of ideas in which even the sea, which is important to him, is not even required. From solid academic training, Chano Navarro has worked with all artistic disciplines and experimented with formats and materials to create his own visual language, which he proposes "as a metaphor of our way of being present in the world".
